For Those Who Might Mourn-The Death of House Chicken
Tonight is a blue moon- a night touched with a singular magic. It is fitting then that we say good-bye to a member of the Seedpod Farm menagerie. You might recall that House Chicken had a unique start in life. He was one of the red broilers we raised this past Spring that for some reason, didn't quite mesh with the rest of the crew. Two sessions of first aid in the house lead to his moniker....and the love of the Seedpod children. I had mentioned that one of the lessons

The Seed of Change....
There was a big transition in the Gullett household this week. We made a decision as a family for me to be "all in" on the farm which meant me stepping away from my job as Director of Music Ministries at our church. This was a very hard decision for us- as discernments often are- but I am learning (albeit slowly sometimes) that God provides one opportunities to really "lean in" to the vision God has laid in front of you- and sometimes that cannot be done by half measure. Zeppelin Zucchini
The ebb and flow of harvest is one of nature's miracles. There's no sleeping on the job around here. If you do you'll likely miss the window of perfect harvest. Such was this week's find- a zeppelin zucchini. I'd been checking the plants (kinda) looking for the nice 6-8 inchers that folks seem to prefer nowadays. True, they are delicious in a stir fry or steamed with a little butter and parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.....but one obviously got past me. The funny thing is

Nothing Runs Like My Dear....
No, we did not get a new green tractor..............(green paint is way too expensive)....but I thought I'd modify their slogan for this post as it seemed quite fitting. This week I thought we'd reached a new level of outrage toward our animal brethren. Delores, our resident Red-Tailed deer....and her little friends, have enraged Farmer Adam somethin' fierce. Here we were, having a lovely morning cup of tea, planning out the day, when we happen to glance outside to see Delo

Let Freedom Ring....
Happy 4th of July! Today is a day that we at Seedpod Farm would like to say, with great humility- how grateful we are for the sacrifices of the men & women who serve in our armed forces......and thier families. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made on behalf of our country. Thank you for the freedoms you continue to preserve for us. We are grateful that our nation embodies the ideal of liberty. An exultation from Samuel Francis Smith's beloved hymn holds true for us

And so it begins......
This is the week we've been waiting for- the start of the CSA season. Hours of planting, weeding, nurturing and fussing have all yielded some wonderful results. Mind you, we've had a few set backs. Delores the Red-Tailed Deer has brought a few of her friends around. Our two layer electric fence, which was effective last year, has not fit the bill this year. Delores and her friends munched 18 of our tomato plants early in the season. She also enjoyed the sweet peppers- no
